Uruguayan Chivito-Inspired Steak Sandwiches, finished dish

Ingredients

  • 1 lb sirloin steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 crusty sandwich rolls
  • 4 slices deli ham
  • 4 slices mozzarella
  • 4 leaves lettuce
  • 1 large tomato, sliced
  • 1/3 cup roasted red pepper strips
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp chopped parsley
  • Kosher salt and black pepper

Steps

  1. Season steak with salt and pepper and sear in hot oil until browned and at least 145°F, about 2 minutes per side.
  2. Split and lightly toast the rolls.
  3. Layer hot steak, ham and mozzarella on roll bottoms and broil briefly until cheese melts.
  4. Add lettuce, tomato and roasted pepper.
  5. Mix mayonnaise with parsley, spread on roll tops and close the sandwiches.
