Swedish Meatballs with Lingonberry Gravy
Small spiced meatballs, creamy gravy and tart lingonberries make a classic Swedish-style dinner.

Ingredients
- 1/2 lb ground beef
- 1/2 lb ground pork
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 small onion, finely grated
- 1 egg
- 1/2 tsp ground allspice
- 1 tsp kosher salt
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups beef broth
- 1/3 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup lingonberry or cranberry preserves
- Mashed potatoes and pickled cucumber, for serving
Steps
- Soak breadcrumbs in milk for 5 minutes. Mix with beef, pork, onion, egg, allspice and salt until just combined.
- Roll into 20 small meatballs. Melt butter in a large skillet and brown the meatballs on all sides.
- Reduce heat, cover and cook until the centers reach 160°F; transfer meatballs to a plate.
- Stir flour into the skillet drippings for 1 minute. Whisk in broth and simmer until smooth and thickened.
- Whisk in cream, then return meatballs to coat in the gravy for 2 minutes.
- Serve with mashed potatoes, lingonberry preserves and pickled cucumber.
