Pakistani Keema Matar with Peas, finished dish

Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp grated ginger
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1 can diced tomatoes, drained
  • 1 1/2 cups frozen peas
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1/3 cup chopped cilantro
  • 4 roti
  • Kosher salt

Steps

  1. Cook onion in oil until golden, then add garlic, ginger, cumin, coriander and turmeric.
  2. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it into small crumbles, until browned and 160°F.
  3. Stir in tomatoes and 1/2 teaspoon salt and cook until most liquid evaporates, about 8 minutes.
  4. Add peas and garam masala and cook until peas are hot and tender, 4 minutes.
  5. Finish with cilantro and serve with warmed roti.
