Pressed Cuban-style sandwiches with pork, ham, Swiss cheese and pickles

Ingredients

  • 2 soft Cuban rolls or brioche hamburger buns
  • 2 tsp yellow mustard
  • 6 oz cooked roast pork, thinly sliced
  • 4 thin slices deli ham
  • 4 thin slices Swiss cheese
  • 8 dill pickle slices
  • 1 tbsp softened butter
  • 1 tsp orange juice
  • 1/4 tsp dried oregano
  • Black pepper
  • Simple green salad, for serving

Steps

  1. Heat a sandwich press or a heavy skillet over medium heat. Stir orange juice and oregano into the roast pork to lightly moisten it, and season it with black pepper.
  2. Split the rolls and spread mustard on the cut sides.
  3. Layer pork, ham, Swiss and pickles onto the bottom halves, then close the sandwiches and butter the outsides.
  4. Press or cook under a second heavy skillet until bread is crisp and cheese is melted, 3 to 4 minutes per side if using a skillet.
  5. Rest 2 minutes, cut each sandwich in half, and serve with a simple green salad.
